How To Draw an Ant and a Cat

Yesterday was the first day of school here in the Philippines. My sister being a teacher usually share exciting stories about her students. When she shared a story about her student’s drawing, we really laugh hard. Here is how it goes.

Yesterday, she told her grade 1 student the story of “Langgam at Tipaklong”. (For those who never heard you can read it here. ) At the end of the story, they were instructed to draw either an ant or grasshopper. One of the student presented her a drawing of the house. Surprised at her student’s drawing she asked questions to see whether the student understood the story and the instruction.

The child was very serious and answered all her questions correctly. She then asked the child, “Bakit bahay ang dinrawing mo?” (Why did you draw a house then?) The child sincerely replied, “Gumagapang po sa poste yung langgam.” (The ants are crawling on the posts.)

My sister was dumbfounded hearing this from a 6year old child. The following day, she again told the story of “Nawawalang Kuting” and made them do the same thing.

The same child presented another drawing of the house, this time her reason was… “Nasa loob po ng bahay ang kuting.” (The kitten is inside the house.)

I wonder what this child would be drawing tomorrow.

Mother’s Day 2009 with my Family

10052009058I am happy to have spent Mother’s Day here in Bicol. It’s really great being with my parents. Looking back at how we were 4 years ago since we all got together, I must say that I’ve never felt this happy with my life.

To celebrate this special occassion, I and my sister went to buy a cake for our beloved mother who spend the whole day in church. Unfortunately, chocolate cakes were sold out so we settled for a photo of chocolate cake..(lol). My brothers, Kris and Mark prepared spaghetti… Pinoy Style!

Being a mom too, I received greetings and all. The best gift I received was from my facebook friend. I think it was on Saturday when I had put a status on my facebook that I am looking for something to help me with video tutorial. She sent me to a page that will answer my question. She’s a virtual assistant and most probably updated on things like these. Anyway, I availed of the training and I really got excited with it?

I wanted to share the things that I learned from Internet Business Mastery but I’m afraid they would reprimand me if I share their secrets for free… (lol).

Anyway, despite the busy day last night, I spent hours going through the videos and I’m glad that my previous boss shared an application that makes listening and watching to videos a little bit faster. So to end the day, I spent most of it downloading videos and audios and listening one from another.

Let Project Management Software Make Your Life Easy

Internet is a great place to work. What I like most working over the net is that I can work wherever I am as long as there is an available internet connection. Since projects keeps on coming, keeping track of the documents and the progress of the project has become tedious. The need to organize everything into one place has become a necessity and the best way to do this is to have a Project Management Software (PMS).

When you have many projects and you have a team who works on a project, you will find it helpful to get a PMS. Right now, we are using Pelotonics to organize and collaborate each project. I have personally signed up for a free account to see for myself.

Here are the top 5 things that I like about Pelotonics:

  1. It is user friendly. I didn’t have to spend time going through the “How To’s”. The user interface was simple and the titles used are in layman’s term.
  2. You have the option to use your own FTP server. Isn’t that just great.
  3. You can upload file directly when you add a comment on a task. Actually there are 3 ways to this. First is through the Files tab. Second is through the Tasks Tab, that is when you either create or comment on a task.
  4. The design of the Dashboard Tab. It shows information on the recent activities of every member of the projects.
  5. The support system is “always on alert!”. Just last night, I was uploading a file and encountered a problem. When I checked my e-mail, their support e-mailed me concerning the problem that I encountered. I didn’t have to e-mail them about the error.

The list can go on but it all boils down to “Pelotonics helped a lot in keeping me on track of every activity that I have.”

It’s not perfect though, I want to have ease of access and a little bit of info when I’m on a project’s environment. Like when I click a project, the project’s name should appear on top of the tab that informs me…”HEY! You’re on this XXX project.” And the Left Navigation Key, I want it to have a link to all the active projects. These are of course minor but I would love to have them.

LBC New TV Advert – Not Good For Children

While I was composing some articles about eBay, my parents were watching the fight between Manny Pacquiao and Ricky Hatton which ended with only 2 rounds. I find that not so exciting. Anyway, since we did not have a paid subscription, there are adverts between the fights. What really disturbed me is not the fight but the new advert from LBC.

The LBC advert shows Edu asking a genius looking kid on how to spell the word “remittance”. The thing is when the kid answered “LBC” Edu exclaimed “Tumpak!” which when translated would mean “Correct”. Imagine your child left alone watching television and seeing that advert. Would it not create confusion to the teachings that they have in school?

I believe that advertisers should be more responsible in the advertisements that they are showing. They should consider that the televiewers are not mainly adults. Parents will not be always there to watch with their children especially if the television segment that they are watching is meant for kids. It sure would look funny to see an advert with a PG on it, wouldn’t it?

Anyway, I just hope our children are smart enough to know that “LBC” is not the correct spelling of “remittance”.

Have You Read Mari Smith’s Social Marketing Method?

I have been joining many social sites like Twitter, Friendster, Facebook and many others which I could not even recall. Social sites are those sites where you get to connect to people and communicate to them by posting shouts, sending notes and other stuffs like that.

facebook I have never touched my Facebook profile ever since I have joined it. I was more on writing something on the wall, responding to friends questions, visiting the sites my friends visit and what usually keeps me busy on Facebook are the many games that they have.

While I was doing some research on marketing, I came across Mari Smith’s Social Marketing Method which mentioned a lot about Facebook, I didn’t know that even that is now considered to be a marketing strategy.

Looking at how Mari Smith presented Facebook and pointed how to use it to advertise and make your site known, I can say that Facebook is indeed a sure way of getting your online business noticed.
After reading some of her blog entries at  Why Facebook, I edited my profile. Right now, I am continuously learning from her book not only about Facebook but also other social networks.

If you are interested to know more about Mari Smith’s books, you can go  here.

My Tito has this little store in Capiz. I started helping him last December. It’s quite tiring and the pay is not as high as compared to my previous pays, but the privileges offsets it all.

Fraternity : Its Effect On Student’s Life

The problem brought about by joining fraternities has no solutions yet. Not much attention is given to formulate solutions in dealing with cases where fraternities are involved.

Every fraternity in a campus has set laws, rules and policies that govern their organization. Students of the same school and students from other universities who are members of this group fight for these statutes because they believe that it is right. It is a law that they are willing to defend and die for. When someone broke any of these laws, it means messing with the whole group. This sounds great since it shows camaraderie, unity as well as solidarity but there are flaws to this.

In school campuses, not every student is aware of the rules set by fraternities. There are cases where one can break the rule unintentionally. When this happens, frat members usually would beat the rule breaker often leading to serious injuries and worst is death. It does not end there, if it happens that the beaten rule breaker is also a member of a different fraternity, feud among the fraternity is created. This situation in most cases happens and has no end.

There are many crimes that are allegedly associated with frat feuds where until now, remains to be unsolved. Victims of frat war, riots and hazing continue to seek for justice. The group that these students believed to protect them have caused them their lives and their families’ sorrow.

With the chaos that is brought about by having different fraternities in a school, I personally believe that it could help to have a single organization where all fraternities will be united to have one policy, one law, one belief and one leader. Having a single organization will greatly decrease the possibility of having riots and gang wars.

Having a single organization for a school would mean that it can be big. It needs competent people to oversee how things are being done. It is best if the school itself will take part in the administration of this organization. School facilitator can guide in the making of rules and regulations for the common good of both the members and non-members.

I personally believe that students will have a nicer and better experience at school when there exist only one organization that creates peace and unity among students. – Ep USEP

Is This The Way To Improve Things?

Kahapon, habang nanonood ako sa youtube, may nag ym… basahin ko daw. Nagdadalawang isip ako na puntahan yon because, the sight was familiar and alam ko na panay reklamo lang naman ang mababasa ko doon and kahit basahin ko yun, there is nothing I can do to help. However, since na kakilala ko yung nagsend ng link I believe na yung comment has something to do with me. So, as expected, nabasa ako.

Sigh! From attacking the admin, they attacked their fellow agent. Nakaklungkot kasing isipin na meron talagang nakawan na nangyayari sa canteen. As the agents know, walang nagbabantay sa canteen, so they can get anytime as long as they will list whatever na kukunin nila from the canteen. At the end of, say, 15 days, they will be billed for whatever na nasa list. When we, I together with Angie, started this system, many said that malulugi kami kasi walng bantay pero sumige kami kasi nga, we both believed na since eversun hires agent with college degree, kumbaga professional, they wouldn’t steal. After a few months of operation, everything went well, then may mga nagsasabi na na may kumukuha na di naglilista.

Being a “makakalimutin” myself, I reasoned that nakakalimutan lang maglista. Pero siyempre, medyo hindi na maganda since sales are far different when it is compared nung nasa Viosil pa.

Yung tinutukoy sa blog na eversun sucks na nagnankaw, marami na ang nagsabi sa akin na nakita nilang kumuha na di naglista. Yung maintenance, yung guard, ibang agent and lastly si Pade. I did not confront kasi nga di naman ako mismo ang nakakita. I believe na kinausap xa ni Pade. I just did not ask kung ano ang naging usapan nila kasi that time di na ako ang nagmamanage ng canteen.

Since yung nagcomment, mentioned about it, natural reaction ko is magcomment back. Siyempre, I also wanted to know kung totoo nga kasi di ko naman nakita yun. Besides, talagang masama ang loob ko knowing na may mga items na nakakalimutang ilista.

As the conversation went on, napunta na sa nakawan ang topic which the moderator said na it’s getting way below the belt. So the comments were moderated.

I had a chat conversation with the alleged magnanakaw last night.

He said

“kahit mam Bevs nasaktan ako sa pinost mo, di ako nagcomment ng pa-traidor.. wala akong gnamit na fake usernames..hindi ako ganyan”

I have to admit, I felt sorry for him because he was put in the limelight of shame. May it be true or not na nagnakaw xa, it really hurts to know that your reputation is being questioned.

Whatever is the plan of the person who posted it, I believe he accomplished it. He made the conversation be diverted. He made the friend of “alleged” (I’d like to refer him with that) stood for him and defend him. And he made me remember that I was cheated and made me want to find out if it is indeed true that “alleged” is one of them.

For those who think that the admin is not listening, you’re definitely wrong. They are all ears. However, knowing the manager of Iloilo, I believe, she will again tell all the admins to refrain from posting comments.

I hope that this blog was really created with the intention of improving things and not merely to make eversun and its admin the center of ridicule.

And by the way, thanks to Mawe for making me realize that I should not post comments in that blog because it is futile since, as I will quote from him,

Now, I’ve learned my lesson. Just like Mawe, I’d rather post it in my blog and refer them here so that they will really know that, it’s definitely me.

Missing My Inspiration

It’s been almost two months since I held my little baby. I miss the feel of her delicate body in my arms. I miss hugging and kissing her. I miss watching her as she sleeps soundly. I miss the sound of her hum as she sings herself to sleep.

I love my daughter so much and I love her father too. I miss them both.
